Touching God’s Heart

“Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.”  John 14:23 (NIV)

Do you know what your love language is?  Several years ago, a popular Christian book helped  us discover what love means to us.  To some it is defined by receiving gifts.  Others find being served by acts of kindness demonstrates love.  In a fragmented busy world, the gift of quality time overrides all else and showers us with love.  Encouraging words and affirmation ranked high on the list speaking volumes to our souls.  Physical presence and touch to some is crucial in reaching their hearts. So what speaks love to God’s heart?  Scripture never leaves us guessing.  God’s love language is obedience pure and simple.  We don’t have to wonder what to do or how to interact with Him  – it’s clearly defined.  A deep commitment to Him and willingness to obey His Word is the key to touching His heart.  If we have trouble following His lead then we need to examine the degree of our love.  Artificial, shallow love always focuses on pretense and convenience – halting where it doesn’t want to go.  Genuine love spurs us on to keep God’s commandments.  It recognizes that God’s laws are a protective shield keeping us from devastating consequences.  We may never know the things we have been spared when we chose to walk in obedience.  So rather than seeing the dos and don’ts, we would be wise to see God’s loving compassion wrapped up in His wisdom.

“Father, create in our hearts a passionate desire to heed Your voice and obey in love.”

For His Glory
