“And you will joyfully give thanks to the Father who has made you able to have a share in all that he has prepared for his people in the kingdom of light.” Colossians 1:12 (NIV)
My niece has already made her Christmas list. Every time we go in a store and she sees something, she informs me that it is on her list. As adults, don’t we all have our own wish list? It is filled with dreams we aspire to come true, places we want to go, and milestones we want to reach in our lifetime – our bucket list. I wonder if God has wish lists for us? Have you ever thought that every time we receive and obey a truth, pass a test, or grow in His likeness that perhaps He checks these off His list. As I read through the Bible, I can see God’s wish list for me – things He wants me to receive or accomplish like:
- Receive the gift of salvation (John 3:16)
- Seek Me in Prayer (Ephesians 6:18)
- Meditate on My word (Psalm 1)
- Seek first My kingdom and righteousness (Matthew 6:33)
- Put on the whole armor of God (Ephesians 6:13-17)
- Will receive crowns ( I Corinthians 25, 2 Timothy 4:8)
Just imagine God smiling each time He witnesses our spiritual growth and “checks” an item off our list. Our Lord wants us to grow in His likeness while on earth. As we have our own lists, let us make sure we are seeking God’s insight. How surprised we might be at how different our lists look when we seek to include Him in our wishes and desires.
“Dear Lord, I wish to grow in Your ways. May I not be selfish in seeking my own desires, but seek to obtain and accomplish only those things that pleases You.”
