Captivated By His Words

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)

Did you know there is a difference between reading the Bible and studying it?  When we read through it quickly, we don’t have time to study it carefully.  In order to study God’s Word, we have to read it and meditate upon it.  The crucial element to gaining wisdom and understanding is applying God’s Word to our lives. We often become overwhelmed or intimidated, but we have the Holy Spirit guiding us and teaching us.  Here are some benefits of studying God’s Word:

1.  Sets us free (John 8:32)
2.  Equips us with the armor of God  (Ephesians 6:10-18)
3.  Quenches the fiery darts of the devil  (Ephesians 6:16)
4.  Know and discover truth so we won’t be deceived (1 John 14:26)
5   Builds our relationship with God so that the Holy Spirit can teach us
(Colossians 2:13)
6.  Develops an appetite for God’s Word and helps us to grow spiritually (Matthew 4:4)
7.  Keeps us close to God (Job 23:12)

God’s Word should not be a drudgery but a great delight.  If we really have a desire to study His Word, He promises to give us understanding. We will grow in our faith, learn to trust Him in deeper ways and gain ammunition to be victorious over Satan – the benefits are endless.

“Lord, I choose to study to show myself approved unto You, so that I will not be ashamed.  I will learn to rightly divide the Word of truth.  Thank you for the Holy Spirit who teaches me.”

For His Glory
