“What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off.” Matthew 18:12-13 (NIV)
Do you sometimes get overwhelmed that you just can’t take care of everyone at the same time? Or if you try that you are just not giving your best to every person? I have definitely been in that position more times than I care to count. I get caught up in the busyness of doing good and lose sight that sometimes less is more.
Jesus was the best example of taking care of “the one.” As the multitudes crushed around him, he felt the touch of “one” woman. In the crowd of thousands, he focused on “one” boy’s lunch. I’ve often heard the simplest phrase, “each one, reach one” used to emphasize how reaching the one grows. When we reach the one then that person reaches out to another. It keeps spreading until the “one” becomes thousands. So if all we can do in a day is bring hope to just one person, remember that hope spreads to so many more. In heaven God will blow our mind when he shows us how that “one” touch made a difference in so many ways.
“Dear God, May we always keep the one in our focus. Show us each day how we can make the difference in one person’s life that will sow a seed for so many.”
