“You (Jesus) who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!” Matthew 27:40

Ever wonder how Jesus transitioned into ministry – the fulfillment of His divine purpose? He was raised up out of the river, baptized by John and praised by His Heavenly Father. Acceptance, excitement and then came the wilderness. Isolation and forty days of fasting – incredible preparation. And then he came; the one (Satan) who seeks to steal, kill and devour. Jesus hadn’t performed any miracles, yet He was a moving target in the eyes of Satan. Questioning Jesus’ identity – “if you are the Son of God.” Questioning Jesus’ power – “throw yourself down.” Questioning Jesus’ wisdom of the Word “it is written.” Questioning Jesus’ worship – “fall down and worship me.” Tempting to say the least, yet Jesus resisted Satan on every level with the Word of God.

Fast forward to Golgatha where a rugged cross held the body of our beaten, bleeding Savior. Watched by His accusers who yelled, “Save yourself if you are the Son of God.” Bound by nails yet Jesus was profoundly free in His silence. Jesus identity and power couldn’t be shaken by Satan’s powerless words .

Sound familiar? Satan’s voice swirls in our heads at the brink of obedience. It’s the same voice that steals, kills and devours before we even move into our God ordained potential. Satan will tempt us throughout our journey of serving God, but if we follow Jesus example and resist on every level, we can be victorious! If we hold tight to the truths of who God says we are then our confidence in Him will not be shaken!

“Father, You have given us the weapons to fight the fiery darts of Satan. Help us to stand firm clinging to Your Word.”
