Blood Outshines The Carpet

cb devo mar 31“The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Hosanna in the highest!”” Matthew 21:9 (NIV).

Award ceremonies are a hit as all the big names show up in their best attire walking down the “red carpet” smiling and waving. The crowd watching those celebrities will shout and cheer as their idols walk out of their fancy limousines and stop for the paparazzi. Can you imagine being in the middle of such a crowd, experiencing the adrenaline of seeing your favorite actors?

In Jerusalem, such euphoria was displayed by those who gathered together holding up palm branches and spreading their cloaks on the ground for a man on a donkey. His name was Jesus.

The similarities between these two events are amazing. Award ceremony events happen yearly. When the event ends, celebrities enjoy partying the night away. Some of them won’t even recall how the night ended.

As for that man on a donkey in Jerusalem, that man’s name was Jesus, King of Kings, Son of the Almighty God. He passed through just a few days before He would be beaten, cursed, spat upon, kicked and despised by some of the people in that crowd. Yet He loved them even as He drew His last breath on the cross. No red carpet… only red blood shed for the forgiveness of our sins. When that night was over and the earth stopped shaking, His body was sealed in a tomb. But death did not hold Him down. Jesus returned and remembered every one of His disciples. And He gathered with them before He ascended into heaven to be reunited with His Father.

During the Easter holidays, let’s not forget how much the Savior loves us and there is nothing on this earth that will change that. The price was already paid, and He will return for those who chose to believe.

“Father, we worship Your majesty. You are Sovereign and You are King. Our hearts rejoice in the sight of You.”

For His Glory
