God’s Provision

cb devo aug 20“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” Matthew 6:26 (NIV)

Since health issues have prevented me from working, I spend a lot of time at home. I recently set up an area in my yard for birds and have taken up the hobby of bird watching. This was in part to honor and remember my mother-in-law that passed away in December. She loved birds and watched them outside her back door.

It’s fascinating to watch the different birds and their habits. Some like to eat the seed out of the feeder, others prefer to eat what’s on the ground, and the robins are happy with a worm. I’ve also noticed how there is usually a pair together. Now obviously they don’t need the seed in the feeder because God gave them special abilities to find their own food and meet their needs. Just like us, I suppose it’s great to have a “sit down” meal every now and then.

During my time of not being able to work, I’ve had to struggle with the fact I’m not making money and contributing to the household expenses. Many times I’ve tried to “help” God take care of this with my own ideas to make money. I can tell you I’ve failed every time. Instead of me being like the birds and trusting God for the next need to be met; I fretted and exhausted myself getting nowhere in my solutions. God has MUCH bigger blessings in store for us than even the needs the birds have met, we just have to turn things over to him and trust his faithfulness.

“Dear God Forgive me for trying to handle things on my own. I turn each need that I have and future needs over to You and trust in Your provision. Thank You for the blessings still to come.”

For His Glory,
