“So if you are suffering in a manner that pleases God, keep on doing what is right, and trust your lives to the God who created you, for He will never fail you.” 1 Peter 4:19 (NIV)
Dinner with a young female friend on Monday night culminated with my calling AAA to come to my rescue, as my car would not start. Since I’d had no problems with my car until then, I suspected it was suffering from a case of bad battery, but it turned out to be in need of a new alternator, which cost 4 times more. I did what I needed to do and my car was fine, but my pocket book was pretty sad about having to assume yet another credit card debt.
The Bible spurs us to give thanks in all circumstances (I Thessalonians 5:18), and I chose to remember that, as I have been the recipient of so many blessings over the years! After all, my car is 16 years old and cars – just like humans – do need to have parts replaced when they become “senior citizens.”
That night I knelt beside my bed and thanked the Lord that it was a replacement part and not an accident that could have injured other people. I then added a post scriptum or postscript, aka “P.S.” to the end of my prayer, which said something like this: “Lord, I am grateful for not being in an accident, but as your daughter I want to claim prosperity in my life, Lord, because I need prosperity in my life, Lord, and not more debt. Please, Lord, send some prosperity my way!”
On Thursday morning I arrived at my office at work and encountered an envelope addressed to me, sitting on my desk. I got myself situated and opened that envelope to read the card, and to my dismay, five 20-dollar-bills fell out of the card. Sender: anonymous. God had shown someone my need. He did not need a reminder from me to bless me, because He always provides.
“Thank You, Lord, for giving us ears to hear Your voice when You speak to us. Thank You for speaking to someone about me.”
