“In a moment, in the blink of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be changed.” I Corinthians 15:52 (HCSB)
Blinked my eyes and another week evaporated. For many it has been a gathering of what was left shredded, ripped and torn across their yards. April 15 will be forever embedded in their memory as the moment their lives were changed in an instant. The devastation as the tornado touched down, picked up and traveled left thousands without power, displaced families and flattened businesses.
I remember the storm warnings dancing across the tv screen. I sat in church and heard the weather alarms going off on phones. Listened to the sound of pounding rain on the roof of our church, yet clueless to the destructive winds violently raging out of control.
Reality settles fast when the aftermath of what we perceived wouldn’t happen really happens. In the blink of an eye life unveiled what was predicted. Truth hit us square in the face regardless of our denial or uncharted history. Perhaps if we lived in the mid-west, we would have recognized the unpredictable path, the immediate danger and the lingering aftermath. But here in the heart of the south, tornados are a rare breed.
Love the mercy and grace of our God who unfolds His warnings from Genesis to Revelation. Alerts reminding us disobedience leaves a destructive path. Prophecies and promises fulfilled unpacking warnings. Signs proclaiming His return is drawing near. Truth that unveils no one except the Father knows the hour or day when Christ will come for His children. The unpredictable we don’t want to ignore. Like a thief in the night, in the blink of an eye those who have accepted Christ as Savior will meet Him in the air.
Christ extends an open door – an invitation – anyone who calls upon the name of the Lord, believes He is God, confesses their sins and invites Him into their life will be eternally saved. Those who remain on this earth will experience unimaginable destruction and those who continually reject Christ will spend eternity in hell. Strong words – yes – packed with the truth, bathed in His grace and mercy. Sweet friends, we don’t want to hope we get this right – we’ve got to know we have it right. His warnings are real; His promises are true. His love is evident. God’s desire is that no one perish – don’t miss out on the joy of being in His forever presence.
“Father when the trumpet sounds, we who are Your children will leave this world and those who ignored Your warnings will be left behind. Help us to boldly share Your truth with everyone we meet.”
For His Glory
