“Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” James 4:14 (KJV)
Opening night and fun with friends suddenly turned tragic. We’ve all heard the news of the young man opening fire, killing and injuring many at a movie theater. One person asked other friends to go with her. They decided not to go, but she went. She didn’t know that she would not make it back to her earthly home. God does not promise us tomorrow. We must live a holy life so that we are ready whenever God takes us home. Many people planned to go see the movie, but how many people were ready to face eternity? In just seconds or minutes people died. God’s Word reminds us that our life is like a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away. We must stop, think, and examine our hearts. Had that been us, would we have been ready to meet Jesus face to face? Can we say it is well with our soul? Would Jesus say, Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: enter into the joy of your Lord? Let’s determine to live each day with love in our hearts and always forgiving those who hurt us. We want to make sure we are at peace with God and with others.
“Lord, Help me to be ready when it is my time to go. May I walk in love. May I walk in holiness. My I walk in forgiveness. I choose to live wisely. I choose to serve you today in whatever capacity you have called me to do so, even if it’s just encouraging someone.”
