“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior.” 1 Timothy 2:1-3 (NIV)
I’ve never been a huge fan of politics. By the time an election comes around I’m really annoyed and want it over with. However, the recent Presidential election and reactions afterwards made me stop and think. We spend a lot of time, effort, and prayers to get the person we want in office. If that doesn’t happen, we blame everyone and everything for it. We focus on what we think is best and don’t take into consideration what God is doing. Ultimately He is in control no matter how many votes, speeches, or promises are made. What we should be doing is praying for our President and the decisions he has to make. It doesn’t work to pull out the Hail Mary prayers during the final days of an election expecting to get what we want. We need to pray and be thankful for all people who are in authority over us and our fellow Americans. We need to focus on the one thing that we can do, ask God to guide our President and leaders to make the right decisions for our country. We need to look around us and find ways we can help one another out on a daily basis. We need to be thankful for what we have and that God is still in control.
“Father God, Forgive us for praying with our selfish desires in mind. Help us to pray according to Your instructions and to accept Your answers. We thank You that Your hand is on our country, and we ask for guidance for our leaders.”
