“Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.” James 1:2 (NLT)
How can we get our mind to a place of joy in the midst of troubles? Even more amazing is how can someone take a bad situation and make it a ministry? Hard to believe? Not really, recently I had the opportunity to hear the amazing testimony of a dear friend who is experiencing various types and stages of cancer. She humbles and inspires me because, I have never seen her without the biggest, joyful smile on her face. It can be a day she’s physically weak from cancer, but her heart is so full of the Holy Spirit the joy oozes from her. At the end of her testimony, she mentioned a statement a fellow sufferer of cancer told her and it hit me dead on: “Don’t waste your cancer.” Whew! Whatever we are going through (physical ailments, marital problems, financial struggles, etc.), we too must commit to not waste the opportunity God has given us. People are naturally drawn to us in times of crisis, so let’s turn it around and give them Jesus. God has opened a door to people we may never have met otherwise. No matter what our challenge is, the ultimate purpose is to give God the glory. So how do you count it all joy – by seeing others meet our Savior – the One who is carrying us and walking with us every day.
“Dear God, “As we encounter the trials of this life, give us the strength and courage to ask what, not why when they happen. Help us to seek what we can do to give You glory through the situation and accept Your peace each step of the journey.”
For His Glory
