Broken Lenses

“ He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him. He came to his own people, and even they rejected him.”  John 1:10-11 (NLT)

Imagine the answer to your anxiety, addictions, and eternal questions standing in front of us and, yet, not seeing Him.

Why can’t we see Him(Jesus) for Who He is?

Maybe it is because of broken lenses. Maybe we are looking for someone to come as a king and a warrior, much like the Jewish people of New Testament times. Yet, He came quietly and whispered to us. Could it be through a neighbor or co-worker? Something we heard on the radio. Something that whispers in our heart and we just aren’t sure what we are hearing.

We  just don’t think the God of the Universe would come to us that way, so we brush it off.

Maybe we have hurts and pain that we believe He could remove if He was really God. But the pain remains and so we assume He is not.

Maybe the people who have said His words have hurt us the most. Maybe our lenses are broken because the very ones who were supposed to protect us and show us who He really is, failed and caused the deepest of hurts.

I wish I had easy answers to give you.

We live in a fallen world that has been distorted by sin. We all look through broken lenses.

There is beauty to be seen! Our lenses will not always be distorted. 1 Corinthians 13:12 reminds us,  ”Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.”  There is a day coming when we will see everything clearly just as God intended it.

What do we do with the broken lenses we struggle with now? The most important thing is that we cannot allow our temporary, earthly, broken lenses to determine where we will spend eternity. We have to allow our distorted lenses to be adjusted through the truth of God’s Word. God tells us that He created us in His image, that He created the most beautiful existence imaginable and that the plan was for Him to walk with us each day. Under the influence of the serpent, sin was chosen. And the heart of God was hurt. Death and pain and grief entered the world.

We believe we are not choosing God because of so many reasons. In reality, none of those reasons matter. The serpent (Satan) does not care which path you take away from God, just that you take one. He does not care about you; He only cares about hurting the heart of God. If he can use you to do that, he will.

Remember Satan is described as a lion, who wants to devour. He is described as a thief who wants to steal, kill, and destroy. Anyone. Everyone. He is not particular.

I beg you-adjust your broken lenses and ask God to let His Word speak to you to see clearly. Trust the King of the Universe that His way is best even when we don’t understand it. Don’t take a chance on your eternity.

Read scripture and ask God to speak directly to you. Allow His voice to be heard and allow what you see to be clearer than your broken lenses. John tells us that He walked among us, and we didn’t even recognize Him. Don’t let that be you.

Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”  John 14:6.

“Father, help everyone who reads this to know You are God and Your greatest desire is for each of us to spend eternity with You.”

For His Glory
